About Dr Helen Schultz, FRANZCP.Ā
I became a doctor after a career as a pharmacist, and my natural love and talent has always been in psychiatry. I was determined to pass all my college requirements and exams to accomodate a young family, and became a consultant in 2009.
I remember my time as a psychiatry trainee, with lots of competing interests and a real drive to pass my exams and "get through". I knew how to study content, but there was no support when it came to the approach to presenting cases or writing essays.
So, I created one.
I began coaching trainees in 2008 through my bespoke program, Present2Pass, which taught non-clinical skills that I could see impeded exam success. Over 250 trainees attended my workshops and courses from across Australia and New Zealand, and continue to tell others that my support got them to fellowship.
I have worked as a clinical psychiatrist for over 10 years, in every type of mental health setting. I stand by my passion that I can help one patient at a time, but if I help one trainee moved towards fellowship, I can help many patients.Ā
Nowadays, I combine my love of professional writing with a new range of courses and coaching, keeping up with changes to RANZCP assessments and helping trainees with written communication and essay structure. I use my clinical experience to perform medicolegal assessments, and devote time to mentoring and supporting the next generation of psychiatrists.Ā

My coaching style
I have always loved guiding and teaching in a way that brings out the best in trainees rather than telling them what to do.
I know what it takes to be a psychiatry registrar, often the smartest doctors in our hospital, so I stay away from dry content and get candidates practicing and showcasing their skills.
I'm open and approachable, and believe that my role is to guide with wisdom and without judgement, focusing on strngths and working hard on challenges.Ā
